The incidence of mental illness is increasing globally, with the impact on living well and families and communities becoming far more significant. Screening, referral and follow up are key concepts in maintaining and monitoring mental health care delivery in PNG and in providing holistic care to all people. Mental health first aid provides screening and early intervention strategies for people to utilise to assist persons in mental health crisis or need.
Safe and effective mental health care is crucial in ensuring that no one’s health is left behind, in line with the National Health Plan. For a person to be healthy, both physiological and psychological health need to be maintained.
This two-day workshop introduces mental health first aid, a user friendly approach to assessing and assisting people in mental health crisis and need. It is suitable for people who are not healthcare professionals also.
