Mental health globally is a significant contributor to chronic conditions and mortality. The incidence of mental illness is increasing globally, with the impact on living well and families and communities becoming far more significant. Screening, referral and follow up are key concepts in maintaining and monitoring mental health care delivery in PNG and in providing holistic care to all people
Safe and effective mental health care is crucial in ensuring that no one’s health is left behind, in line with the National Health Plan. For a person to be healthy, both physiological and psychological health need to be maintained.
This two-day workshop introduces the principles and practices of mental health care delivery based on evidence-based care and contextualised for PNG. Aspects that affect mental health care delivery are also a focus enabling participants to provide safe, evidence-based mental health care within their role.

How is the workshop structured?
The workshop is structured as a mix of presentations and group discussions and debriefs to ensure that participants have opportunity to test their understanding and ideas with their peers.
Is this course for mental health experts?
A basic prior knowledge or experience of mental health care is expected (e.g, working in health care delivery)
Who should attend?
The two-day workshop is targeted at healthcare professionals of any cadre working in PNG.
